I am not a professional photographer. I work for a major U.S. based photo company and I like taking pictures. I have spent time in a dark room and I loved it but I’m not a pro. I know I could be a better photographer if I had a nicer camera. Isn’t it funny how the camera makes all the difference these days? I have a basic Sony point and shoot camera (not the company I work for, such a trader). I’m an amateur.
Here’s my photo for week 1 of Project 52. Wow, I almost didn’t make the deadline.
This week I spent a couple evenings with my Grandma. Since my Grandpa passed away on December 16th, she has been staying with my parents. My parents had a couple obligations this week and didn’t want to leave her alone. My Grandma has dementia and can’t do many things for herself.
I remember when I was in high school, my Grandparents volunteered at our local hospital. They would sit and visit with sick people, people they didn’t even know. My Grandma always brought a bottle of nail polish. As she was visiting with the sick ladies she would offer to paint their nails, most said yes. Girls love to be girls! This week I painted my own nails with OPI Lincoln Park After Dark and then offered to paint my Grandma’s nails pink. She loved it .
P.S. I promise I won’t give this much of an explanation on each Project 52 photo. I just liked this story.
That's so sweet and such a touching picture! :)

Oh how I love this photo of your hand with your grandmothers. I never knew my mother, she died when I was a baby. I have ALWAYS wondered if my hands look like her hands. This is a very special photo, it brings tears to my eyes and I appreciate you sharing it.

ReplyDeleteLOVED this post, Jill. And if the photos have a story like this... by all means ~ SHARE!!! Beautiful and priceless photo.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of my own grandma. Martin and I packed up the kids on the Christmas Eve snowy roads up north while we were staying at his parents, and headed to the neighboring town's nursing home to take my grandmother out to lunch at the local, small town cafe. My grandmother is almost 87 years old, and I'm amazed at how sharp her mind still is. She volunteered for nearly 30 years at the very nursing home she is now in. It's a blessing to see her still doing one of her favorite 'volunteer' jobs...the only difference is, she now lives there, too. It's hard to see her so fragile though. But we sure enjoyed out time with her. And she enjoyed breaking out to her favorite cafe for her favorite meal with our family! We spent some time with her at the nursing home, too...and before we left, she hugged me tightly and began to cry. That was it. I was crying, too... and Martin's eyes were even starting to well up at the sight of it. As we left, he put his arm around me and said, "I'm sure glad we took the time to do that. It puts life into perspective really quick, doesn't it?!" Indeed it does. I know it's the circle of life. But it reminds us not to take so much for granted, as I realize I probably won't have my grandma around much longer. So this photo is SO beautiful to me... I'd give it an award, if I could!! :)
Hugs,
Tanya
What a beautiful picture and memory you have of you and your grandma.
ReplyDeleteThat's really sweet! Great photo, great story!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great project and I agree that the camera makes all the difference. I always think your photos look nice though. I would love to get a Rebel, but that won’t be for awhile. I love the photos that Danielle takes with her camera.
ReplyDeleteThat was so nice of you to go and spend time with your Grandmother. I’m sure that she appreciated it and I loved the beautiful story behind it.
That is the perfect thing to do. I bet she is going to admire those nails all week.
ReplyDeleteLove that photo!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet it made me cry.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this picture! So sweet. I work with seniors so I know how hard dementia can be. So good of you to be there for your family :)
