We made it to San Antonio on Saturday. My Houston loaders were amazing. They were so fast! It made me realize the last time I moved, my hired help was terrible. It took them all day, morning until midnight. Jarrett and I left Houston at 10:15 AM. I cried. My San Antonio un-loaders weren't as good but it's done.

Oh my~ I'm sitting in the biggest mess of boxes right now. I'm overwhelmed. I have so many things I want to blog about right now but I need to unpack. Unpacking is definitely harder than packing.

I'll be back to myself soon and I'm still planning on a having giveaway at the end of week.

Things I'll Miss About My Apt

I decided to take a short break from packing. I'm tired. I'm excited about moving and ready to get it over with. I'm going to miss many things about my current apartment.

I can't begin to tell you how many people have questioned where I live in Houston or made a comment about the safety of the area. I live (for one more day) in the Montrose area. I call it The Gayborhood. It's artsy, eclectic, old and I love it. Yes, I've seen homeless people digging through my trash can for diet coke cans but they're harmless. At least they're trying, right?

I love old buildings. They have so much character. Here's a few things I'll miss about my 1930's building...

2. It’s miserably HOT. I’ll never understand why Texans complain about the 2 months of cold weather we get. How are y’all feeling now? :) Tuesday before I left Houston for Dallas, the temperature was supposed to hit 106 with the heat index. It cracks me up when people say Dallas is cooler than Houston. Today in Dallas the temp was supposed to hit 105 with the heat index. Whatever. The Houston news announced 8 “Cooling Centers” around the city. I think it’s a great idea for those who need to escape the heat and can’t afford to keep their homes cool. The extremely depressing part is the “Cooling Centers” will be open from June 22- Oct 2. Yes you heard it right, OCTOBER!

3. I thought of something funny today. In April I was visiting my parent’s church in San Antonio (San Antonio airport code=SAT). I told a few people I was 95% sure I was moving to SAT in June. One girl said, “Oh you’ll love it here. You don’t have to dress up.” Hmm…. Guess I’m not going to fit in. Here’s a little random fact, I have never owned a pair of sweatpants.

There is seldom a movie I'm VERY excited to see. As I was getting ready for work this morning, I saw a preview for this movie. I. Can't. Wait. How cool would it be to have your blog become a movie?

This would be a great movie to watch at a blogger meet-up. If I were still living in Houston, this movie would've been fun to see with Midnight Macaroons. She is so sweet and has the best luck finding unique vintage items at fantastic prices. Another Houstonian blogger I would love to meet is Woman Interrupted. Her blog is real and honest and always makes me laugh. Plus, she loves skanky nachos. Every time I have nachos now I think of her funny post on nachos and feeling really sick.

Remember when I said I started blogging because it was an outlet from stress and drama? Well, I don’t want to blog about my crazy schedule, moving, or my feelings about leaving Houston, at least for now :). Yuck, but thank you SO much for your sweet comments. Stressed...

Tonight I flew to Houston (HOU) from Albuquerque (ABQ). As the plane flew over downtown Houston, my heart was heavy. This is my city. I love it. I was born here. In one week, I will live in another city. I know this is the right decision, I have prayed about it since April but it’s still hard.

Last April as I was praying about the decision to moving to SAT. I consulted with my family and 2 friends. My brother, Jarrett, asked me a question during the decision process. Jarr asked, “If you leave Houston, what and who are you leaving behind?” Wow, after 12 years the answer isn’t what I had expected. I’m disappointed. I’ll never in a million years say that I’ve been perfect because I'm not (and nobody is). However, overall I think I’ve been a good and loyal friend. I was almost speechless when Jarrett asked me the question (I can’t answer Jarrett’s question on my blog).

My friend, Midnight Macaroons, asked me how I’m feeling about the move to San Antonio. Thank you so much for asking and I’m sure you never expected such a dramatic answer. ;)

I’m stressed. I’m sad. I’m excited. I’m disappointed. I’ve learned so much about myself while living in Houston, things I never dreamed possible. I’ve traveled. I’ve seen the human spirit at its best and at its worst. I’m different than I was 12 years ago. I’m thankful to my Heavenly Father because I know this is my plan. I’m right on schedule. I’m ready to leave. I’m ready to never leave. Does this even make sense? I’ve deleted so many sentences in this paragraph.

Friday, June 19- Work in Gallup, NM. Drive 2 hours to ABQ. Catch a S*uthwest flight to DAL. Catch a delayed flight to HOU. For the record, S*uthwest isn’t always on time or the cheapest.

Saturday, June 20- Bring a few items to the furniture consignment shop (including my stinky Pottery Barn rug… PB customer service would NOT help), Friend coming by to buy sofa, Pack, Friends coming by to help me paint my pink room to tan (must get my deposit back), Dinner with 2 friends (this was supposed to be a going away party but I canceled it)

Sunday, June 21- Movers come by for a cost estimate, Church, Drive to San Antonio

Monday, June 22- Work in San Antonio all day, Drive back to Houston

Tuesday, June 23- Doctor Appointment, Pack, Drive to Dallas

Wednesday, June 24- Work in Dallas all day, Jenn and Ryan leave San Antonio, Jenn and Ryan stop in Dallas to pick up Jarrett, They drive all night to Omaha, NE

Thursday, June 25- Work in Dallas, Drive back to Houston, Jenn, Ryan, and Jarrett arrive in NE to unload their moving truck

Friday, June 26- Vacation Day for me, is it really vacay if you're moving? Jarrett leaves NE, connects in Denver, and lands in HOU. I pick up Jarr from the airport, Last minute packing

Saturday, June 27- Pick up moving truck. Movers load the truck. Lindsay and John stop by to bring us breakfast... so sweet, Thank You!!! Leave for San Antonio, Jarrett drives the moving truck. I follow in my car.

Gracie and Elizabeth Update

I've been meaning to post updates on Gracie and Elizabeth from New Day Foster Home. Gracie is so fat. :) She is living with a foster family in the village close to NDFH. For Mother's Day this year I sponsored Elizabeth in my mom's name. Elizabeth was left at an orphanage at 8 years old. Bless her heart, can you imagine? She had a serious heart condition and recently had surgery.


Gracie’s foster mom wrote this update: "Gracie did not go outside to play this morning because the weather is fairly hot these days. She goes outside to play usually from four to five in the afternoon when it is a bit cooler. This afternoon we took Gracie with us to a meeting we had at the Foster Home. Although it was a bit warm, she was still energetic and enjoyed herself, especially when she saw Grandpa Wang, whom she is very familiar with. She was very happy to see him and let Grandpa Wang hold her. Although the other nannies are strangers to her, she is not afraid at all. She even talked nonstop with them while we were there. She is very cute. After the meeting, we had to wait for dad to pick us up to go home so I held Gracie and we stayed for a bit longer in the Foster Home."

Elizabeth’s nanny wrote this update: "Elizabeth is back from the hospital! The operation on April 30th was very successful. Our little Elizabeth recovered in just eleven days and was released from the hospital. She is now more beautiful than before. Her skin has turned from dark to fair. Her fingers and toes are no longer purple and black from lack of oxygen and circulation. When we picked her up from the hospital, she said I want to go back home to the nanny “moms.” Although she can’t do a lot of exercise right now and she tires quickly from still recovering from her operation, taking care of herself is not a problem. She is an “older sister” who enjoys taking care of the younger brothers and sisters. I believe she will fully recover and play outside with other kids in no time at all!"

Isn't funny what Elizabeth's nanny said about her skin turning from dark to fair? She described it as beautiful. Americans (well most) prefer tan skin and the Chinese want lighter skin. When I visited China last fall, Carrie took us to a Chinese Spa. We were there for about 5 hours and I spent around $35. What a deal! We relaxed in different pools... a green tea pool and an aromatherapy pool. As we were relaxing in one of the pools Carrie noticed a sign that described what that pool was helpful for... it was to lighten your skin. I removed myself from that pool as fast as I could. I'm not sure it's possible for me to be any paler. Ha Ha.

Advice?

Y’all, I feel like the worst blogger and commenter EVER. I used the word “ever” in a sentence a couple of weeks ago while talking to my brother. My brother said I sounded like Steph*nie Pr*tt from The Hills (his girlfriend watches it). Oopps, not good! I’ve been so stressed with moving, work, and traveling. It's not a good combination. I’ll be back to your blogs soon.

Since I’m moving in 2 weeks, I want to purchase new bedding (although, I'm not sure when I'll have time). I also want new towels, pots, and pans but that won’t be happening. I have a black iron canopy bed. It currently has a reddish Ralph Lauren printed comforter. I’m thinking about replacing Ralph with all white linens. It just feels so clean and fresh. I found this photo from Ballard Designs. My bed isn’t quite this fancy but it’s close. What do y’all think?

I have an armoire that I desperately NEED to paint. At first I thought about painting the armoire a shabby chic white but I talked with BFF, Tiffany, and she suggested a pale green or pale blue. Why didn’t I think of that? I love that idea. What color do y’all think would be cute on my armoire... pale green, pale blue, or white??? Should I give it a shabby chic finish, matte, or lacquered?

P.S. I just finished watching the Sex and the City episode where Miranda had to stand by the guest book at a wedding. As if that wasn’t bad enough, she had to put the wedding gifts in the van. Ha Ha, this episode is so funny. I’m not lying, I’ve stood at the guest book, cut wedding cake, and poured punch more times than I can count. Yay, for being a "C" list friend. :)

Questions Answered~ Part 3

Chic & Pink:

Besides China, where is the next best place you have been and why? Tough question, on our way back from China in 2006 we stopped in Tokyo for about a day and a half. It wasn’t enough time to see the city and experience the culture but in my short time there, I loved it. I don’t know if Tokyo really counts because I wasn’t there long enough.

So my answer would have to be, London. I really love it and would love to live there for a bit. There is never a dull moment in London; they have so many shows and cultural events. Some say the food is bad but if you go to the right places it’s good. The best risotto I’ve ever had was in London. If you visit London, just remember it’s really hard to find French Fries after 3:00 AM. One night at 3:15 AM my friend, me, and many others were knocking on the windows of Burger King asking them to sell us French Fries; they ignored us.



Biggest pet peeves? There are so many peeves; it just depends on the topic or situation. Today I’ll go with people speaking for me. I’ve actually had people tell me I wouldn’t like someone because of (fill in the blank). I’m SO opened minded to different people and cultures. I’m actually a little offended when someone tell ME I won’t like someone. Really, I’ll make that call. There's only a hand full of people I’ve met that I just don’t like. Unfortunately, a couple of these people go to my church. I know, that’s not very Christian of me. I get along and like all people (except 5) I’ve ever met. My philosophy is the more different the person, the more interesting. My very best guy friend has voted differently than me his entire life. We talk about our differences in a constructive, informative way. I completely trust and respect him. It's fun to learn from others. What would the world be like if we were all the same? Boring...

If you had a million dollars, how would you spend it? First, I would make a donation to the charities I am passionate about. I would give to my church. I might buy the duvet and duvet cover that I’ve been eyeing and waiting to go on sale. I would save the rest. I’m such a bore! Someday, I would love to sponsor a person or 2 who are interested in working in a third world country orphanage but don’t have the funds to take the trip on their own... so I would possibly sponsor someone too.

Angela:

Why is Continental your favorite airline? I prefer the cheapo Southwest - goes anywhere and they have the best deals! I try to keep the majority of my frequent flyer miles with one airline. Continental is based in Houston and they offer direct flights to most of the places I need to be... anywhere from Shreveport, LA to Seattle, WA. If you fly enough, you become an elite member and receive complimentary upgrades to first class. Continental has the youngest jet fleet in the industry and they still serve complimentary meals at meal time. It’s not the best meal in the world but that small turkey sandwich, cheese pizza, or hamburger (all served in coach) really hit the spot on long flights. The food, wine, and service in first class is the best.

I like Southwest and I do fly Southwest on occasion. In fact, I'm flying Southwest tomorrow to ABQ. I have earned free tickets on Southwest but I don’t have much use for them. On vacation, I usually go places Southwest doesn't service. I gave my last free Southwest ticket to my brother. However, I’ve used my Continental miles for places like London ($60), China ($30), and Italy ($34). I just pay the taxes. It’s a nice advantage.

Miscellaneous

I have a few more questions to answer from my “Ask Me Anything” post but I thought I’d take a break to mention a few very important items.

Remember the Circus themed baby shower I hosted for my friend Amy? At the shower I gave each guest 2 note cards. They wrote one note to Amy and one note to her husband Joe. The notes could be anything from congratulations to advice or tips and tricks to help them with their first. Everyone gave me their note cards and I’ve been saving the cards for a surprise. The surprise finally arrived…



It's a Photo Book... I scanned each note card and used the photos from the shower to create a Photo Book for Amy and Joe. Can anyone guess which company I used to create the photo book? The first person to guess correctly will win a little surprise. If you play along and win, I’ll need your mailing address. I really love the idea of having a photo book that displays handwritten notes from each shower guest along with photos. So my friends and sister, don’t forget this idea and do it for me someday. ;)

My friend Jules at Chic & Pink informed us of something that’s just too cute. Two of my favorite things are joining forces… Hello Kitty and Wine! That’s right, Hello Kitty Wine. It’s just so cute, I might pass out. I haven’t seen the Hello Kitty Wine in the stores yet. If you find it, let me know.

Y’all know how I like to complain about hotels only having television channels for men? Well, I’ve got the ultimate example for you this week. I’m in San Diego (LOVE this city) and here’s my man channel line-up this week. Keep in mind I only have 38 channels; it’s not like home with 400+ channels.

What is your favorite magazine? It’s a tie between Southern Living and Elle Décor


What is your favorite hobby? Anything crafty

If you described yourself as a famous person who would that celebrity be? Good question and so hard to answer because I don’t like many celebs. They’re so out of control these days, especially when they open their mouths about politics. I can’t 100% identify with just one celeb but I can possibly relate to 1-2 characteristic of a couple celebs.

Reese Witherspoon seems girly and nice. I think we could be friends IRL (in real life). Reese seems like the kind of girl that you could meet for lunch or happy hour and chat about girl stuff. I won’t be popular for this one but I admire Angelina Jolie. No “Team Aniston” over here. I would LOVE to talk with Angelina about her work in international orphanages and adoption. I think once you’ve experience a third world country orphanage, it changes you. I understand that about Angelina.

What will be the #1 thing you’ll miss most about Houston (as in lifestyle thing)? Big venue events such as the Rodeo and concerts. Britney Spears didn’t quite make it to San Antonio on her tour this year. :) That’s okay, I’ll only be 3 hours away and I’ll be back often.

What made you start blogging? In 2007, I found a Chinese adoption blog. It was the first interesting blog I had ever read. From that blog, I found more blogs and I was hooked. I had a terrible year in 2007 and reading blogs became an outlet for me. Everyone is so nice and positive. At the end of 2007, I decided to start a blog. I wasn't sure if I’d have anything to write about or if anyone would read my blog. After posting my first several entries, I called my mom and begged her to read them and leave comments. I really love the blogging community. I’ve made some great friends and I’ve had the chance to meet a few bloggers who are now IRL friends.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Or 10? Or 20? Oh goodness, I have no idea. I really thought at age 34 I would be married and have 2-3 kid. I thought I would be a stay at home mom and the president of the PTA. You know how some people are on plan B, C, or D in their lives? I’m on plan M. Ha Ha but I'm not joking.

I am thankful for the path God has taken me on over the years. I was not born an adventurous or independent person. When my parents dropped me off at college I cried. I think I was homesick for about a year and a half. Over the years, I’ve changed so much and my hopes and dreams have changed too. I have no idea what will happen in the future but I’m excited to see where God leads me.

What is the cutest thing you’ve ever made? Some might disagree but I think the cutest thing I've made are earring holders from open frames and scraps of lace.


What is your favorite food? I love food, which is why I have a situation right now. :) I go through favorite food phases, Mexican, Mediterranean, Sushi, etc... I think right now my favorite is thin crust margarita pizza... tomatoes, fresh basil, and fresh mozzarella. Or maybe that's just what I'm craving right now?

What is your favorite song at the moment? Poker Face by Lady GaGa. I’m so refined.

Hobby you would love to learn. I know you want to learn to sew. Is there anything else? Yes, I would like to grow a vegetable and herb garden, maybe someday when I’m home more often.

Do you ever come to Oklahoma? Can we go to dinner if you do? We have an employee in OK so I don’t get to work in OK often. I have been a few times and YES, I would love to have dinner. If you’re ever in San Antonio, let me know. I’d love to meet you and I’ll bring cupcakes.

What is your favorite beauty product? Lancôme mascara! I have blonde eyelashes and I swear by Lancôme mascara. At my first job right out of college, I had a lovely salary in the low 20’s. I’m not joking. It was hard but I made it work. I lived on the outskirts of town, I didn’t have cable, eating out was a treat, and my grandmaw bought my 12 packs of diet coke. However, I always made room in my budget for Lancôme mascara.

Petunia:

What are your favorite skincare products? I was diagnosed with a form of eczema called Seborrheic Dermatitis (SD) on my face about 6 years ago. I use skin care products from my dermatologist to prevent SD and keep it under control when I’m in a break out. I have several cleansers that are prescription, which is really nice because insurance covers most of the cost. I like M.D. Forte products. They’re sold in the doctor’s office and unfortunately, insurance doesn’t help. I do get to pick my eye make-up remover. I like Lancôme’s eye make-up remover but it’s a little expensive. I tried Sonia Kushuk’s eye make-up remover from Target for about $10 and it’s my new favorite.

What are your favorite shampoo and conditioner? I’m not loyal to one shampoo or conditioner. I really like the Bed Head products. My favorite shampoo and conditioner is the Dumb Blonde and Moisture Maniac . A couple of years ago I bought a Chi flat iron. I love the way it makes my hair look and feel but it has damaged my hair. My hair stylist (he’s in San Antonio, so excited) recommended Kenra conditioner. He sells it to me at cost which is great. If I’m out of Kenra or Bed Head isn’t on sale, I just pick up whatever is on sale at Target.

Are you excited about moving to San Antonio? Yes, but I’ve had a few moments.

Are you packed? Since I’m traveling every week, packing is a challenge. I’ve made a schedule and every weekend I pack a room. I’ve packed the dining room, kitchen, living room, and butler’s pantry. I still have to pack my bedroom, the bathroom, and the office/closet. Not fun.

What is the first thing you’ll do as a resident of San Antone (besides unpack)? I’ll probably call a few of the girls I know and try to meet up for happy hour.

What is your favorite Bible verse? It’s hard to pick just one. Here’s a few of my favorites...

What is your most favorite (fiction) book of all times? The Nanny Diaries. The book was great the movie was terrible.

What business are you in? I’m a regional trainer for K*dak, which can mean something different everyday of the week. I was hired to train retail staff how to use photo equipment and selling techniques. However, the job has changed over the years. I still do a lot of training but I also install, program, and network computers and kiosks. There are only 50 regional trainers in the company so we travel quite a bit.

How did you get into it? I wish I had a good story but I don’t, I knew someone. A friend from college introduced me to her sister-in-law who worked for K*dak. Her sister-in-law helped me get an interview. I went through 4 interviews, I think they were scared to hire me b/c I was young. I’ll never forget the night before the “you’re hired or we went with somebody else” call. I was so nervous and I couldn’t sleep. I think I prayed all night.

Astros Game

Saturday afternoon my friend, Maria, invited me a work event she was hosting at Minute Maid Park. Maria took one of her largest customers to an Astros game. Prior to the game, we had field passes and got to watch the Astros warm up. We also met a few players and they signed baseballs for us.

Y’all, I’m such a waste of a ticket to this kind of event. I really don’t know much about sports or any of the players but it was fun.

Funny story, my sister travels for work as much as I do. Jenn was on a flight and she was upgraded to first class. There was a man sitting next to her. They said, “Hello” and she worked on her computer the entire flight. When the plane landed Jenn was rushing to baggage claim and a passenger ran up to her and said, “Excuse me ma’am. Do you know who was sitting next to you on the airplane?” Jenn said, “No.” He said, “It was Jeff Bagwell.” Jenn said, “Who’s that?” The passenger said, “A former and famous Houston Astro.” Jenn said, “Oh” and continued to baggage claim. Ha Ha! I probably wouldn’t know who Jeff Bagwell is either but I’ve lived in Houston for 12 years and I’ve heard his name on the news.

This is Lance Berkman. Supposedly, he's good and famous. He signed a baseball for me. I'm thinking about selling it on eBay and buying a new dress. What else am I going to do with it?

Maria's son and his friend. The friend told Maria it was the best day of his life. So cute.



Our game tickets were in a suite. There was tons of food, beer, and wine. This morning my church dress was a little tight. Ooops!

The table center pieces were Astros cans filled with peanuts and cracker jacks. Nice touch.

View of downtown... the prettiest downtown sky line I've ever seen. One of my favorite parts of an Astros game is the singing. Of course, we sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame." We also sing, "Deep in the Heart of Texas." So fun!
